In honour of the unveiling of the new Winged Victory statue, we made a delicious ANZAC bikkie-flavoured beer, in collaboration with Marrickville Council. With the ANZAC spirt in mind, we used Malted Barley from Voyager Craft Malt in Australia and Gladfield Malt in New Zealand (two very new micro maltsters). Urban Beehive honey, allspice, cinnamon and oats were blended with rosemary – a symbol of rememberance - and New Zealand Kohatu hops to make this easy drinking Australian Pale Ale
Winged Victory is a statue at Marrickville Town Hall that honours the 457 soldiers from Marrickville who died in World War I. That commemorative statue is of the goddess of victory, Nike - she inspired us to ‘Just Brew It’ (swoosh!)
Since the original statue underwent several repairs - and wound up at the Australian War Memorial, in Canberra – the Inner West is getting a brand NEW statue. And, a newly refurbished Marrickville Town Hall. BRING IT, 2015! If it weren’t totally illegal we’d recommend getting a growler of Winged Victory from our Newtown brewery and drinking it with some friends under Winged Victory.
